Boiler selection

Rice Straw Steam Boiler Selection: A Practical Guide for Factory Buyers

Rice straw can be a useful local fuel, but buying a rice straw steam boiler requires more than comparing rated output. Factory owners and EPC engineers need a clear basis for the fuel, process steam and complete installation. Use this guide to prepare a practical enquiry for a 10–130 t/h biomass steam system.

Start with the steam your factory needs

List the production equipment that uses steam, its required pressure and when each load occurs. Separate normal demand, short peaks and start-up conditions. A plant with batch production may need a different operating strategy from one with a steady drying load.

Include water treatment, distribution losses and condensate return in the review. The boiler is one part of the steam system. Use our steam-demand calculation guide to organise the available information before discussing equipment size.

Treat rice straw as an engineering input

IRRI identifies ash and alkali-related challenges when rice straw is used in combustion boilers. Fuel preparation, feeding and ash management therefore need a specific review. A system selected only from the name of the fuel may overlook important differences between suppliers.

Collect representative samples and report moisture, ash, net heating value and particle size. State the measurement basis and explain how the straw is collected and stored. If the fuel changes during the year, provide seasonal information instead of a single best-quality sample.

For a proposed blend, identify rice straw first, then any cow manure, rice husk or wood chips. Do not assume a boiler approved for one mixture will accept every other mixture. Our biomass steam boiler page provides the starting point for a project-specific review.

Compare complete packages, not only boiler bodies

Ask each supplier to identify the included fuel handling, feedwater equipment, controls, ash handling, flue-gas treatment and commissioning support. Record site interfaces and exclusions in a common comparison sheet. This helps an EPC team identify gaps between civil works, utilities and supplied equipment.

The installation layout should allow safe access for inspection, maintenance and replacement of critical parts. Discuss delivery constraints and the responsibilities of the factory, contractor and boiler supplier before finalising the order.

Agree the operating and maintenance plan

Huayuan reports continuous operation of up to six months, reducing shutdowns and manual ash cleaning. This is an upper operating claim, not an unconditional promise for every rice straw supply. Run length depends on the fuel, load, water quality and maintenance arrangements.

Request the proposed inspection schedule and critical-spares list. Continuous production still requires trained operators and the checks specified for the equipment. Any performance guarantees should state the agreed fuel and test conditions.

Prepare a useful project enquiry

Huayuan has manufactured boilers since 1968 and has longstanding export experience. Review the company qualification documents alongside the proposed equipment scope and destination requirements. A certificate alone does not define your installation requirements.

Boiler systems are customised, so a fixed catalogue price is not a reliable project budget. Send your location, steam duty and available fuel information through the Inquiry Form. Our team can then discuss the technical information needed for a tailored proposal.
